[RWP] toggling the checked state of fields in dialog boxes

Hi:
When I’m in the track properties dialog and want to toggle the state of a control that has a check box, pressing the space bar initiates playback instead.  Is there a way around this?  With jaws I can route the mouse to the control and click but I don’t think that would work with nvda.
