Hey Indi, your excedent is a pity for all of us, i think.
The first thing is to export your MIDI data as the MIDI file. Please, look at file menue in Reaper.
As to vanishing of data and VSTI of track let me to suppose you've created the copy of your track while being somewhere in the middle of work. Your new copy has no data while the needed track hid away from you.
Another thing is behaviour of VSTI player which is free so we don't know all of its possibilities and features. So it is better to render the MIDI track or the item right after finishing the MIDI.
