Don't mean to but in but got excited when you mentioned spg.

I too started out with spg years ago, and wrote many setfiles for it with vocal-eyes.

I made every part of that thing talk, and used it in the studio well in to this century, slaved to adat machines.

Brian can add his comments ofcourse since you asked him specifically, but the main deal with sonar is that it has been worked on by two different jaws packages for many years, both cake talking from dancing dots which has a comprehensive manual tutorials and custom jaws scripting to do practically everything you need 
to do to work the studio with audio and midi.

Other screen-readers have basic support window-eyes to some extent and nvda to a better extent.

I worked with Jamie last christmas and we got nvda working much better with sonar with many new features.

What sonar has that reaper doesn't is better and more instruments, mastering tools, loop content, you have a matrix view which allows you to load loops and groove them to a tempo and trigger them to midi for real time performances,
you get a good drum module

I did free ahk and hsc scripts for it too,
the scripts are free, but I sell support,
you get a good piano sound, roland groove synth, the tts which is a gm synth, drop zone, sfz which is a completely accessible sample playback system,
you can layer and control your samples with fx and envelopes and all if you learn the opcode language, this open architecture is also inherited with dimension pro and rapture which you get a lite version with sonar producer but you can buy that from cakewalk.

It's like 4 dvds with tons of production stuff, oh did I mention the big whapping library of rex files?

So this isn't to make reaper look bad at all, reaper is awesome for what it does and the price, but sonar is another thing again.

If you are going to seriously persue working a studio,
you have a lot more of a path to follow with sonar, and a lot more help available.

It's early days for reaper,
and as blind folks gravitate toward it,
it will maybe catch up, but to make reaper and sonar equal in all ways, you have to buy a lot of stuff to help reaper out.

NOt everything that comes with sonar is the absolute best in class, but like protools, or cubass, or the other big players, you could do it all with sonar alone if you needed to.

But that probably wouldn't happen with reaper.

that being said, reaper does audio editing and item based editing, sonar calls them clips,
a lot better.

So that's the deal in a nutshell.

  what do you think is on Sonar better? I read sometimes that blind people using Sonar but I didn't tried it out, too expensive for my needs. ;) However, Sonar is Cakewaalk and they purchased the Voyetra Sequencing products which I was using 20 years ago. ;)

  I've posted these tracks on the midi mag list before, but heres my sound cloud with some original material I finished recently,, 95% of the instrumentation etc is me, and I did all the mixing also. Its all done in sonar though because I'm still afraid of reaper!
