Me too; I don't understand the inserting points in an automation curve,
but I remember that you can select whether to reduce number of points;
add or not add points, maybe select whether to fill in between points.
There are many of these automation curve actions in SWS actions, too
twiddley for me.
As to returning or jumping back to previous level after stopping
automation, I leave the fader at its desired setting and let the track
finish writing automation.
After the old days of plotting accellerandoand decellerando curves in
Voyettra Gold I swore i'd never get bogged down in such number crunching
again.
Gives me a headache just to think about it.
