Sometimes I'm retro; but if I'm only quickly experimenting with tempo; I
just find the audio on the interface at the numberPad and left click on
it, which brings up an edit box at the arrow keys.
Either that or set BPM in Project settings alt+enter.
I know more about midi than audio, but Reaper treats midi and audio
almost entirely the same, so I think you select any item, audio or midi,
with shift+A; or if you're on the left side of an item: ctrl+shift+right
arrow.
If you are past the item, it's ctrl+shift+left arrow to select the item
to the left.
Some people don't like ctrl+shift+right arrow but I find it works well
to select items.
Seems intuitive to me.
