[RWP] plugging an electric guitar and adding effects on reaper?

Hello guys

It's been a long that i was away from playing and   editting music, do 
to my studdies.
I'm now back at it, And i'm trying to record some music if possible.
This time i want to have my cousin beside me playing his electric guitar 
on my songs, however i require abit of a help.
I have a creative E-MU 1616m audio interface, and i connected my work 
station via a  SPDIF cable.
     I'm planning to  plug  my cousin's guitar into my interface as 
well, then have reaper to add guitar effects by reaper.
I wanted to know that is this setup possible? and if yes, how can i go 
on with adding guitar effects with reaper.
I'm still a newbie to reaper and DAWS, do to my  very restrictive time, 
i can't focus on learning it...

questions answered.
@indigo, I also believe i owe a thanks to you as well, -if you're still 
active on the list- because of your help, i managed to setup my audio  
interface with reaper and get it working.
