Well,th delta cards work under 7 but not as well as they did under xp you
can't push the latency as low.
Mileage differs with different motherboards, but this is a widely known
fact.
Also the drivers aren't as accessible, takes more mousing around, I worked
with these cards a lot when w7 first came out, I have 2 delta 10 10 the rack
mounted ones, and 2 44s, these were my favorite cards for 12 years and took
me from w98 all the way through xp which I still use a lot, and then I
bought my mackie onyx 1640i.
I'm glad your 2496 is working ok for you, it's something to do with the
clock, and that chipset, apparently the 24-192 which has a different chipset
doesn't have the problem.
Too bad though hbecause being a pci based card it actually can go lower in
latency than my newer mackie at a given setting, and though I love the onyx
firewire board, in raw performance the older hardware actually does better
under certain conditions.
This is under xp though.
But by it's nature a card based interface like the deltas get's higher
priority on the pc than any external bus like usb or firewire.
So for pro sound cards usb is at bottom in desireability, then firewire and
pci and then pci express as best but we don't have so many pci express cards
which is a shame being the fastest lane in a modern pc.
