OK,...here are some places to start...
There are many people on this forum that know lots more than myself...


1. press "f12" for the learning mode,...(this will give you the 
description of the keys, short cuts,...and their functions)...press 
"f12" again to get out of the learning mode...



2. Here is the document page for "Reaper",...

There is a heading,..."Start here if this is all new to you"...
I recomend reading as much as possible,...and then experimenting with 
your hands on...

As for your sound problem,...I'm still thinking about that one...

I recomend thying to open a mp3 file to see if it will play inside the 
reaper interface,...Then if you can get some audio files to 
play,...then we can work on getting your microphone to work...
