In Reaper, you can always get at all parameters of a plug, shift+P in
track view, though it's a list at the arrow keys, tab down for edit
fields; values set at the arrow keys.
Even when percentages, or realWorld named values are shown onscreen,
it's always 1 to 1000 in Reaper.
Sometimes parameters themselves aren't named, just parameter 1 2 3 873,
but that's the plug writer's fault, they say.
In FX view; the letter F from track View; click on Param and arrow
around to find another list of the same parameters; where you can midi
learn CC messages to them.
I don't know if they're named any better in Param than in the shift+P
list; probably the same
Certainly no limit on how many are displayed in reaper, over 800 in FM8,
but hugely tedious to tab and arrow through such a list, and no undo or
compare feature when tweaking parameters
If the tweaking results in ruining the original preset's sound, you can
press escape to return to the original preset's sound.
I suppose one could write down the original values for each preset;
reminds me of synthesis on the Casio CZ-101, in 1988; where writing down
values was the only way to save created sounds, except for ram cards,
which lost everything when their batteries went dead.
Tweaking a plug's parameters is so much easier from a control surface,
but I don't think you ever get a method to compare what you've tweaked
with the original sound; like you get on many hardware synthesizers.
You can save the original preset sometimes, with the default save dialog
in Reaper, then compare the tweaked preset with the original, a crude
sort of after the fact compare feature.
None of my control surfaces do it, but maybe some have a built in undo
that stores the original values; for comparison?
