I misjudged the possible smoothness of what the joysticks send from this
cheap little gamePad.
When assigning a control to an action, it is absolutely essential to put
a checkmark onto the selection:
SoftTakeover Absolute Mode Only.
You find that selection by tabbing down after you set the shortcut to a
midi CC message; before you click enter on OK.
Soft Takeover prevents jumps when moving the control.
Also, some CC messages can be smoother than others.
I just made moving the pan around with the joystick very smooth by
searching Set Pan;then tab down to list; arrow down to Set Pan For
Master Trackmidi OSC CC only.
Before, when I assigned a joystick to this action, midi CC 33 came up,
but this time I somehow got channel 1 Pitch instead, which moves the pan
around very smoothly, without jumps or sputtering of the audio, like CC
33 caused.
It's a mystery to me why I got a different CC number when assigning that
same joystick.
By the way, if there's already a shortcut assigned to an action, just
click on Add; and assign a new shortcut or midi CC.
Then afterward, you'll find 2 shortcuts in the shortcut box.
Just select the one you want to eliminate, tab down to delete, and hit
enter.
Delete causes the action dialog to disappear.
Just press F4 and it reappears; still on the action you were working on.
