Sorry, I was hurried because it was time to feed my wolf dog before he
dined on leg of table.
Okay, I left out the final step in quantization from Reaper onboard
midi editor; after making settings, tab down to Commit and press enter.
There is also an okay button there, which seems to disappear after
pressing Commit; but Commit seems to be all that is required.
Using NVDA in Reaper 64; Commit doesn't respond to Enter; so I need to
move to Focus with the NVDA key and numPad dash;;then left click and
quantization takes place.
Okay, where to set the grid?
Before using this method, I tried another, which does not quantize, but
is one place to set the grid value, like sixteenth, eighth, quarter
note, etcetera.
Again, select the track with up/down arrows; select the item with
ctrl+shift+right arrow.
You can select the item with shift+A if you like, but I prefer using
ctrl+shift+right arrow when I can use it, because it announces the item
numberwhen you select the item.
Then; to set the grid value; I go to the Item Menu.
Then arrow down to Item Process.
Then arrow right, and arrow down to Quantize Item to Grid.
It would be lovely if this quantization method worked; but I can't get
it to.
But, here you can set the grid value, from sixty-fourths to longer
values like 1/4; 1/2; 1; 2; 3; and 4
In this Quantize Item to Grid menu you press enter on Apply to set the
grid values
I don't hear any, quantization performed here.
But, once grid values are set here, when you press the letter Q in the
onboard midi editor, choose quantize to grid; uncheck Bypass; choose
notes; 100 percent, then click on Commit, you really hear the
quantization applied and the midi track is definitely quantized to the
grid value you set
Reaper seems to retain the set grid values between sessions, so remember
to set a new grid value as required.
Indi.
Addendum 2.
I notice that you seem to get the same quantization menu in the Item
submenu; brought up with alt+V, but I've only located this item view
submenuafter first going to the onboard midi editor, so I'm still
experimenting with simplifying the method.
Like maybe you can get to that same alt+V menu more directly.

You get from sixty-fourths, thirty seconds, sixteenths, eighths, to very
long note lengths.

Final step, click on Commit to apply quantization and return to track view.
