You've just made the case for using vst instead of hardware synths.

One can certainly synth up and use midi or control surface for external synths, but it's so much easier to create sends and automate them, and most vst synths automatically synch up to the host tempo so we don't even have to worry about external clocks and such.

And a bunch of other practical stuff to boot.
