Just a correction, it's CTRL+arrows to move to the start of and select
either previous or next item. Add shift to select multiple contiguous
items as you move to them.
CTRL+J gets you to the jump dialogue, which is similar to what Pro
Tools has at the numpad. Where you jump to will depend on the format
you enter. 36. (36 followed by a period or full stop) will move you to
bar 36 beat 1. 36.3 will get you to bar 36, beat 3. 36.4.25 will get
you to exactly a quarter way through bar 36, beat 4 (the 25 being a
percentage). Alternatively, if you enter 36: (36 followed by a colon),
that'd dump you at 36 minutes. 36:3 would get you to 36 mins 3 secs.
Tbh, I'm not sure what our other example of 36:4:25 would do and I'm
not in front of Reaper to try it, but my guess would be something to
do with MS.
If you combine that jump dialogue with judicious use of markers
(Reaper's take on Pro Tools memory locations), you can fly around the
timeline.
Hth, shout if you get stuck
