[RWP] a few questions working with a live recording of a band

HI,
You should be able to separate the track into individual items by 
pressing the item select shortcut, either ctrl+right arrow, to select 
the next item when beginning at the beginning of the track; or you can 
use select+A.
You should hear the specific number of the item you just selected.
I like items on their own track, so after I select an item I cut it to 
the clipboard with ctrl+X then create a new track with ctrl+T; then 
paste it onto a new track; using ctrl+V victor to paste.
I don't know if a gate can be removed once it is applied during recording.

Sidechaining is fairly easy using ReaComp in Reaper's VST folder.
If you google Cockos..Reaper..sidechain you get a good video on how to 
sidechain.
ReaComp has the multiple inputs needed for sidechaining.
