Hi, OK, below is a reply from Cockos support on this matter, thanks to Roy
for forwarding it to me, but before that, I think I have the answer, but I
need confirmation from others of course.

Firstly, I followed what they said in the response, without any obvious
improvement, so back to square 1. Anyway, I've just give it a bit of
trouble shooting and I'm pleased to report, well at least at my end, when in
the track view, if you check the option in the view menu "always on
top"...it will keep Reapers main interface on top! I can then alt tab to
and from any open plugs window just like any other window. Everything seems
to play nicely together now. If it isn't check, then the plugs window pops
into focus, so I'm hoping this is the answer and solution to what is a
problematic issue, cheers Steve.

Hello,

Thank you for your email! First off, setting that option in Preferences is
running all plug-ins in a dedicated process (meaning even the ones that
don't need that option), which can have an impact on performance.
It may be better leaving that on "Automatic" and right-clicking the plug-ins
in question in the FX Browser, then selecting "run as" and "dedicated
process" to run them this way individually. In the same right-click context
menu you find an option to "embed bridged UI", which turns off the host
window and makes the plug-in windows behave like any other window. This is
less crash-resilent though, that's why it's not turned on by default. Also,
this option is not available on OSX.

Best regards,

Cockos Support
