Hi Indigo
My reasons for changing over to Reaper & System Access was that I finally
had my fill of JAWS & its assosiated problems with the Video Intercept
Manager!
I had been using Sonar with JAWS, JSonar scripts and Hot Spot Clicker for at
least five or six years, and with my deepest thanx to Victor, Jim and Phil.
However, once the issues of the video card came up again, that is JAWS & its
Video Intercept Manager, and with the aging machine it was on using Windoes
XP, spending several frustrating days trying to get JAWS to work properly, I
bit the bullet and decided to upgrade all round...*large smile*
So, now in place we have Windoes 7 64bit running on a Quad Core I5 with 8
Gigs of Ram, a 250GB SSD, R1TB HD for audio, Reaper and System Access.
I know the learning curve is quite steep but hey, it keeps one's mind VERY
active.
And the instantaneous nature of the audio handling in Reaper, far outshines
whatever Sonar could do...*smile*
Thus, if you guys do not mind some of the Newbies questions I will happily
plough into Reaper, and start producing some good music.
Okay... blatant advertisement!! Check out my latest album, tis only for
Primary School Children, but none the less....

The album is called 'Aesop Go HipHop'.
Thanx and everyone have a good day....

I'm curious, David, why you don't continue with Sonar and hot spot
clicker, in Windows XP??
Reaper is smaller and more efficient in use of CPU power than Sonar, but
all these programs end up with the same thing, music recorded.
Someone said, the best program is the one you already know.
I have Sonar 8.5.3, and sometimes use its matrix view to assign loops to
keyboard keys, but I never could get my head around Sonar's complexity,
and since I use Wineyes I have no help from CakeTalking or hot spot
clicker, so Reaper was a natural for me.
I installed XP onto a machine with an I7 2600 with loads of power, and
enjoy using XP for Reaper, Sonar, Propeller Heads Reason 6.5, whatever.
Besides, I have a bunch of great old 32 bit plugs that work best in XP,
and with my simple working methods, XP's less than 4 gigs of ram is
plenty. .
Although I love XP for making music, I gave up XP entirely for going
online, because it is way too vunerable to viruses, so now I use this
little cheapo Acer quad core online, with Windows 7 64, and up to date
Firefox browser, and keep my XP daw machine safely off line for music.
I recently found another solution to have the best of both XP and Win7
in the same machine, a swappable drive tray.
I put swappable trays in the front of both computers, a lot of labor,
but worth it.
Soon I'll stick a blank hard drive into this AMD based Acer desktop, and
install XP onto it, so I have a backup for music making.
