[RWP] pasting

Hi.
Sorry if I'm being a pain. Pasting isn't working. Say I have a single track containing a single measure of audio. I move the cursor to start of track using home, select the track with shift space, do shift pagedown to select the audio from measure 1 to measure 2, then I hit control c to copy, and it says copied selection or whatever. I then move the cursor to measure 2, and hit control v to paste, but the audio isn't being pasted. This is what I tried instinctively, and this is what it says in the user guide, so why isn't it working? Thanks for any advice.
