will dig deeper into Reaper's audio quantize soon.
am also considering Stylus rmx for its Chaos and time designer features.

One of the main features needed for being a great loop maker is audio
quantization, like Cubase's Beat Detective, Sonar's AutoSnap.
Reaper has an audio Snap to Grid procedure, but it's awkward; with many
steps.
I'm looking at taking loops recorded in Reaper to Sonar for AutoSnap; or
maybe  to Propeller Heads Recycle, for its amazing slicing on
transcients, and its invisible crossfading to blend slices back together
after slicing; or to Sound Forge's Snap to Grid, which almost no one
talks about.
I found an excellent article on using Propeller Heads Recycle not just
to get audio transcients aligned to the beat, but using Recycle to
cyncopate or stutter transcients, or squash them in interesting ways.
I always liked Recycle, and it's not difficult to find its threshold
sensitivity, time signature, or tempo fields.
In my experience, the absolute king of beat sensing is Sony Acid Pro;
what a shame it has some real access difficulties.
One would think that Sony would apply Acid Pro's audio transcient
sensing abilities to Sound Forge, but; in the forums I read that audio
Snap to Grid was better in Sound Forge 8, but  partially broken in
version 9; not sure if it was ever fixed in Sound forge 10.
