[RWP] Mp3 to midi... Does it possible?

Hello guys, give me a little help with an idea that I'm trying to put into practice
please...

I'm transcribing a song to midi, and I thought the following:

It would be possible to insert a music on a track, put the output of
that track to another, which would have it any program (vst) that recognizes the notes
played, and converted it to midi notes?
That way, could I record and generate a midi file with them?

I ask because I've tried to do something similar, using my guitar to play a vst
in real time.
It worked very bad, but I think it was due to the vst I used for testing,
the reatune...
