The big jump in price is because of having a full 16 returns or outputs back
from the daw which the lesser mackies only give you two even though you have
descrete inputs depending on your unit.
So you'd have 8 in and 2 back on the 820.
Stephie's a sharp lady, but she's stil learning about this audio stuff, and
having two sound cards and making sure the right thing is going to the right
place, well, it can confuse some people, it does me sometimes and I've been
doing this for 30 years 'grin'.
Wait till you get a patch bay and see how much head scratching; you do to
figure out how to best optimize it.
I broke out virtual audio cable the other day, and man that's a useful
little tool, but you can sure get yourself in a dither over that making sure
sampling frequencies and driver modes are compatible and making sure you
have the right cables and repeaters going on.
But I've been workin with Stephie and now we have a third computer in there
for her to record lessons, and I think we've wrestled everything in to
submission, and she has a third pre-amp for the realtek a little 2 channel
m-audio dmp3 I believe it was to get her signals up to snuff.
You'll like that mackie, it's a peach, any of the units you get.
