[RWP] Recording Levels in Reaper

I just went through a hellish virus invasion.
One thing that happened was Reaper's recording levels became so low that 
I'd need to set the record track to plus 16 to get levels up to normal 
levels, and the distortion was enormous.
I never had that problem before.
I blamed it on Reaper 4.21 or 4.22, but it was actually my EMu sound 
card drivers and control panel were corrupted.
I think I finally zapped the virus, then reinstalled the sound card 
control panel and driver, and now recording levels are back to normal, 
but I still get low levels at the J and K VU meters when recording.
Is there a setting that will bring the VU meters in line with the actual 
recording levels?
Before my sound card drivers got corrupted, i got levels at the J and K 
keys that were about right for what the recordings turned out to be in 
volume, and I'd like to get it back reading accurately.
Does anyone know of settings for the VU meters?
