[RWP] Newbie with a couple of questions.

Hi I have not long perchased reaper and would really love it if
someone could help me with a couple of questions.  Firstly i have read
some tutorials from a few links i found in the archives of this list
and they have been very helpfull, how ever i still have a few
outstanding questions.  With reguarding to looping, if i want to
create a loop lets say 2 bars long i am asuming I would do the
following.
1  create a new track with ctrl-t and arm with f7
2  set record monitor to normal with f8
3 press shift f2 for item properties.
4  I would then set possision to 1 and say length to 8 for 2 bars in 4/4
5 if i tab again there is a combo box wich has the options of time and
beats.  Since i am wanting to set length dependant on measure i would
set this to beats.  Now once all that is set i hit record and it is
still recording as if i am recording a live track is there something i
am missing or doing wrong?  Also i would have expected that say when
the 2 bars were finished it would loop back to the start playing my
first recording and alowing me to record a second part over the top of
the first.  I hope i have explained my question well enough, any help
would be grately appreciated.  Hope everyone is having a grate day.
