[RWP] MIDI Input Assign

David, I don't know System Access, Roy Shtupler does, but I assume your
virtual mouse is showing about the same thing the Jaws and Window-eyes
PC cursor and mouse pointer are showing at the number pad.
, You don't need much info from the screen very much while doing general
navigation. .
All the navigation one needs is at the tab and mid arrow keys.
Where the virtual mouse slash mouse pointer comes into its own is while
exploring interfaces of VST plugs.
When you insert a VST soft synth, you are placed in the Reaper effects
routing page.
You can get to that same page any time from the track view by pressing
the letter F.
In track view, it's very crucial to have the track selected that is the
master track for the plug you want to explore in the effects view
With another track selected you get a different effects view with a
press of F..
arrow to the track containing the soft synth, press F, and explore the
soft synth's interface at the screen with your virtual mouse.
We can't expect that Window-Eyes moves are going to translate exactly
into System Access moves of your virtual mouse, but I found; I wouldn't
say secret; but my own discoveries how to find otherwise non speaking
screen buttons for increment and decrement of presets, and sometimes
buttons for morphing presets, and other parameters, depending on which
soft synth is loaded.
Try to get sighted help if you can, but if you can't, use whatever
method System Access has for jumping to screen items, or icons, or graphics.
Left and right Click them and learn what happens.
Also, if system access has a method of creeping the mouse cursor around
the screen by pixels, or small groups of pixels, use that to explore in
the vicinity of screen graphics that don't speak.
I'm sure you will soon make personal discoveries that work in System Access.
VST effects are another story, with a different access technique.
From track view with ctrl+middle insert key, tab and arrow to the VST
folder with the supplied Cockos effects, and load one of them.
You can also insert effects from the effects routing page, same result,
the effects gets loaded.
In the effects routing page, tab down a couple of places and you will
find a combo box that should have a list of parameters of that Cockos
effect.
that you just loaded.
Depending on which particular effect, there might be a few or even
dozens of parameters in that combo box.
You can also find parameters with repeated presses of the tab key for
that effect, and you can type in values in an edit box at the arrow
keys, or arrow up and down to various selections.
Here's another work around; discovered by Jim Snowbarger:
When there are no parameters showing in that combo box, because of a
display problem, you press ctrl+page down and the list of parameters
suddenly appears.
You will be placed at the bottom of the list, because you hit page down,
so you arrow up through the parameters, or hit page up to get to the top
of the list.
That parameter display issue seems to be true only for the supplied
Cockos effects.
Third party effects also display their parameter list in that same
combo box, and their parameters are also available at the tab key, with
edit boxes or selections at the arrow keys.
Of course, how many parameters show up depends on which effect, or soft
synth is loaded.
Do you already know about the huge list of accessible parameters that
Reaper displays for many many plugs?
I'll go look at Reaper on this computer and refresh my memory on the
moves and get back to you on navigating that list, unless you've already
discovered it.
Native Instruments FM8 is one of my favorite soft synths, with over 800
working parameters showing in its parameter list.
Cakewalk Z3TA also has hundreds
It's tedious to tweak parameters from Reaper's plugIn parameter list,
but it can be done.
There are also little tricks to get soft synths to display their presets
at the arrow keys in effects routing page, sometimes with the preset names.
Z3ta shows over a thousand presets in 1 long list at the arrow keys,
with no special tricks required.
All this is very individual to the particular soft synth, and the best
advice is to left click and right click everything, to learn what happens.
Reaper is not very delicate, and doesn't lock up easily from
experimental clicking.
There are usually several methods for doing anything, and you will find
your favorite ways of working.
