The midi channel is set on your midi keyboard.
Soft synths, like Dimension Pro receive midi on any of 16 midi channels,
but don't send midi.
Dimension Pro is not a good example to use, because it is large, so you
probably would not insert very many instances of it, and Dimension Pro
can have up to 4 stereo parts or layers, so can receive on up to 4
different midi channels at once.
No, if you put a soft synth on track 1 it does not automatically receive
on track 1.
