For those of you who were following that thread about jaws scripts, and better handling of the media explorer, you can get my evolving scripts at the link provided below.
This should allow the file names to be spoken as you arrow up and down. This works with jaws 10 in xp, and with jaws 13 on windows 7 64. That's all I know.
If it doesn't work, you could try recompiling the jss file for your version of jaws. Might help, might not.
In Reaper, you should assign the backspace key to the reaper action for the media explore category, to, browser, go to parent folder, so you can use that to escape back to the next higher level.
Arrow to a folder, and press enter to open it.. Or, backsapce to escape it.
Arrow to a soudn file, and press right arrow to start playback, left arrow to stop it.
Pressing enter on a sound file will insert it.
If you're a braille user, you can now see the cursor time on the display while in the track view and, on a good day, the track levels too.
This also helps older jaws versions speak actions from the actions list. Old versions don't speak the action unless a hotkey is already assigned. Plus, you can now use the page up and page down keys, and hear what selection you land on. And, the speech has a few extraneous words removed for comfort and convenience.
Not much, I know, but give it a try.
Copy the contents of the .zip file into the user-specific settings area of jaws, it's the folder that opens when you choose, explore my settings, from the jaws item in the windows start menu.
Once installed, and focused in Reaper, insert+q should report reaper scripts version 3
