[RWP] Motif SX, and Reaper

You need to arrow to exactly the track you want to record on or configure.
Insert a second track with control I, then give a significant name to
the second track.
While you are arrowed to that second track, in the track options at your
tab key, set that track's midi channel to a different one from the first
track you recorded.
Set track 2's record armed on, and monitor to normal.
You want your Motif to be like a multi-tembral synth, so each midi
channel can play a different instrument sound, so make those settings in
your Motif..
When I was playing a hardware instrument in Reaper, I needed to first
arrow to the track I was recording, then press the letter i to open the
IO Routing Dialog.
In the IO dialog; I set a recording track send to the hardware
instrument I wanted to play.
I think you'll need to do the same to have your second track send midi
messages back to your Motif.
So, to repeat myself, I both needed to configure the track options for
the track I wanted to record, and, when I wanted to send midi to a
hardware synth, I needed to open the IO Routing dialog for my recording
track, and assign a send to the hardware synth.
Assignments made for a track in the IO routing dialog are reflected in
the track options for that track, so if you assign the midi channel for
your second track in the IO Routing dialog, when you exit the IO routing
dialog with the escape key, then you'll find that same midi channel
assigned to your recording track's track options at your tab key.
I hope this is understandable.
