Several things:

#1: you can always use shift+space, instead of space, so that solves you needing to cursor around.

#2: do everything you want to a track, and then save it as a track template. This is super easy.

Just go to the track menu, and arrow down to save track as track template.

When you want to insert a new track, simply go up to track, and the insert track from track template.

Bam!
