try the same dialog as the Learn feature; just don't assign any controller.
tab to the "arm" check box , and make sure it's checked.
also set the track's automation mode to Write/touch/Latch.

  I want to automate a vst plugin by just using the pC keyboard, and not my control surface. do I need to use the same procedure as when using the learn menu, Or is there a another way to arm the envelope for a specific parameter of a plugin?
