[RWP] Interesting problem recording with Reaper

the only thing I can think of is that your sound card has automatic mike
leveling turned on...this is a feature most newer computers have...it's like
a limiter, except with the sound card, I think it reduces the bit rate or
something until a lower mike level is achieved.
It will sound watery, contain digital artifacts and so on...much like the
sound you would get from a tape after too many copies were made....if you
had say the 4th or fifth copy of the tape or something.
Go in and look in your soundcard settings and turn off the auto mike
adjustment, loudness adjustment or whatever...it'll be fairly obvious.
are you using a laptop?
