[RWP] Routing MIDI channels

Hi, has anyone seen this in Reaper or is it just my set-up?
When on a track and typing i I get to the routing dialog. I can add sends and receives etc without problems. There is a listbox to chose the channel where all MIDI from this track is to be sent to. The default is "Send to original channel". Now I can select a dedicated channel between 1 and 16 however, if I leave the menu pressing enter or esc and return to it again typing i, the default value is set again and: In fact Reaper keeps sending MIDI to the original channels rather than to the one I selected.

Background: I have a keyboard which always sends notes on channel 1 but this is of course undesireable in case of multiple tracks.
Any hints? By the way: Thank you for the work-around of accessing the instrument input selection menu ctrl+UpArrow, it works.
