[RWP] Trouble getting control surfaces to work

Hi:
Has anybody had any success with using control surfaces?  I have the bcr2000 and the tranzport and whenever I add them as control surfaces and set the midi in and out ports I get an error that the midi ports can't be opened even though they work in Sonar and they are enabled in reaper.  COuld it be something to do with the fact that the SOnar plug-in is installed for the tranzport?
