[RWP] Effects View Disappears

When I hit Control plus applications key I get a context menu where I can 
insert a track or insert a virtual instrument onto a track, but it causes my 
effects window to disappear.
All that's left on the effects view is the name of the VST synth, and
I can't find a way to get the original effects view back.
I need that original effects view to select presets on some plugs, and to 
access synth parameters on other plugs
So, other than exiting my project and starting over, what can I do to 
restore the original effects view?
Right now I'm avoiding using the control plus applications key shortcut, but 
I don't understand why it should do anything different from the regular 
insert menu, which doesn't change the effects view.
