maybe it can be done using the ReaControlMidi feature.
I think it can be accessed from the view menu.
cheers
Roy.

ok, the next question is where do you put the bank and patch info in reaper?
I'm missing that small part of the puzzle

Synths don't own banks. A bank number is from 0 to 16383, and a patch number is either 0 to 127 or 1 to 128, depending on the base. It is up to the synth to determine how it interprets that information. It isn't standardized in any way.

Try bank 0 and use patches 1 through 128. See if anything happens. Most softsynths respond to banks starting with bank 0. For hardware synths, though, the rules are entirely different. Roland, for example, has a complex scheme that uses the MSB of the bank number to select the area of memory used by that bank. If you don't know how to interpret that info, then you end up with bank numbers like 8378 that seem to be selected at random.

Most new synths don't respond to bank/patch change, anyway. That's old tech. Expect new synths not to include it.

Since most synths also use entirely inaccessible UIs, you can't manipulate those with a screen reader.

The only alternative is to have a program that, when you press a hot key, will click on part of the synth's interface. This lets you make a key that will, for example, select the next preset by clicking the next preset button in the inaccessible UI.

For Jaws, there is an add on tool called Hot Spot Clicker that makes creating and using sets of hot spots fairly easy. It detects the program or synth that you're currently using by examining info like the window title, and enables hotkeys that are appropriate for clicking just the controls of that synth.

Of course, HSC only works for Jaws, and the ReaAccess project is attempting to stay screen reader neutral, so HSC might not be the best choice. You can accomplish similar tasks with AutoIt, but they are much harder to develop, and rquire that you know a little bit about basic programming concepts. Solutions that you make with AutoIt, though, are completely independent of a screen reader. Maybe you all can get a framework going for installing a set of AutoIt hot spots as part of ReaAccess. You'll need sighted people to help you locate the controls, but, once they do, you can make hotkeys that click on those points.

I can't figure out how to do bank or patch change in reaper, nor how to know which banks are for what synth.

If the synth doesn't support bank/patch change, and the native UI isn't accessible, then you're out of luck. There is no automation support in any synth for changing patches.

I think that's a general question of all softsynths, how do we change patches?

        hi all

am testing the demo version of Pianoteq which is a physically modeled piano.

it even includes all the available add-ons for evaluation.

        anybody using it?

how do I change between the different available piano models?

thanks very much for any ideas.

        Roy.
