[RWP] questions from a new reaper user

I'm a new reaper user and I have a couple of questions.
1. When I try to record, I get the message that the track is not armed. How do 
I arm the track?
2. Can I open wave or mp3 files in reaper, or do I have to convert them to 
another format first?
3. Are there hot keys to get into the menus, such as the file menu, etc?
4. Do the vst plug-ins that come with reaper work in programs like sound forge?
