If this should be on a different list, let me know. I hope that people won't mind discussing it for a bit, though, as it could help with helping to support people remotely.
I'm trying to think of a way to stream the output of Reaper to another computer across the Internet. Now, there are a multitude of methods for accomplishing that task, all the way up to plugging the outs of the interface/monitor mixer to the inputs of another computer that is streaming to a Shoutcast or similar server. However, what I'm really trying to figure out is the least technical way of making this happen: the way that requires the least amount of extra equipment (preferably no second computer or out-board gear), and can be preconfigured so that the person doing the streaming only needs to make the most minimal of adjustments on their end. It is alright if accomplishing these goals means that there is some latency, or if the quality is slightly reduced. The latency shouldn't be more than a few seconds in the worst case, and, however the quality is reduced, it must remain stereo.
I saw the plug in the Reaper install that would let it bridge to other programs via ASIO. Don't know of any conferencing apps that would support input from it, though.
Something could probably be worked up with Virtual Audio Cable, but that would break the complexity requirement, since the user would need to install and configure VAC.
There are so many different plugs for Reaper, I just wondered that, perhaps, one of you had heard of a streaming one. *laugh* Even with latency, would be neat to have a virtual out that went to a streaming server, in to a conferencing app, etc.
Any ideas? Remember, it can be complicated on my end to preconfigure, no problem, however, it must be very simple to setup on the other person's side. I can, of course, preconfigure a package of Reaper and send to them, but the supporting software is where I think I'll hit the snag.
