[RWP] Time Selection

Guys,
Once I establish a time selection, with alt+shift plus left and right 
bracket, is there a way to make reaper just play the selection, in order to 
confirm it?

Once you have a time selection established, how do you remove the selection?

What I did recently was:
1. Establish the time selection around a passage I wanted to move.
2.  Cut the selection to the clipboard.
3.  Go somewhere else on the same track.
4. Press control+v to paste to the new location.
surprise, it got pasted back in the original selection, apparently because 
the selection was still active.

 So yeah.  How do I deSelect the time selection?
