Hi guys,

I have some truly great news for the dectalk community; the dectalk
archive is coming back.

No, not like that. The website idea has always seemed like a bad idea to
me; I spent so long several years ago trying to figure out just where
the heck it was because it switched so often. Also, eventually somebody
stops paying the cost on the servers and the domain name. I didn't want
that. So I thought of a system that will keep the archive alive and well
as long as there are still people who want to hear its contents.

I am using a program called BitTorent Sync that will allow all of us to
share the folder among our computers. We can easily acquire the content
from each other and will all maintain it.

By the way, I am wholeheartedly in support of sharing this folder as
publicly as possible, so if any of you maintain some sort of dectalk
page, you can place the folder secret there (with or without these
instructions as you decide) so other interested people can connect to
the folder. This should also make it easier for us to continue adding to
the dectalk creations we all know and love.

Advantages of this system include:

Before, if a lot of people downloaded the archive, the bandwidth costs
would increase and the speed would decrease. This isn't fun. Now, the
more people are involved, the faster is the download speed and the more
stable is everything.

Disadvantages:

You have to install the syncing program. I list this under
disadvantages, but it's really not that bad. Below are the instructions
for obtaining and installing BTSync and setting up the folder.

For those of you who already have BTSync and know how to use it, have at
it. The folder secret is

BFQETEL6FG4ERS3NAGHE2BXR6VMEWC7NH

For everyone else, see below.

You'll want to read all of this before you perform the steps and will
probably have to check back to the list on a few things.

1. First, if you use NVDA, you will want to install the BTSync add-on.
This makes the application more accessible. The link to this is

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11231100/BTSync.nvda-addon

Install it like you would any other add-on package. Feel free to e-mail
me with questions.

2. Then, you'll need the bitTorrent Sync program itself. You can
download it at

http://www.bittorrent.com/sync/downloads/complete/os/windows

3. The installation process is a little weird. You will get to a stage
where it will ask you if you have a secret. You will want to select the
"No, I don't" option here.

4. It will also ask you where you want to store your synced shares. I
would suggest you create a folder for these, something like "synced
folders", under which all of your content will go.

5. Using windows explorer, go into the folder that you created for
syncs, and create a folder in here called "dectalk archive" or whatever
you would like it called.

6. When you have finished the installation process, open BTSync. There
will be a list of folders, containing your folder.

7. Navigate around the BTSync window until you find the add folder
button and activate it (it only worked with the space bar when I tried).

8. In the "folder secret" box, paste the following line

BFQETEL6FG4ERS3NAGHE2BXR6VMEWC7NH

9. Navigate to the browse button and select your "dectalk archive" folder.

10. Press OK and close the window with alt+f4.

You're good to go. The content in the dectalk archive folder will begin
to download. You will also be sending this data to others on the folder.

I'll report back to the list later today or tomorrow to help people and
see how things have gone.

Carlos
