Why are commercials known as jingles? Was it because they were invented 
during Christmas when they had jingle bells?

Basically it's a magnet that hooks onto a speaker which would normally 
be a horn, but instead of this horn it is a small oral straw that you 
put to your mouth. The microphone is beside you ready to pick up the 
filtered sound and play it, kind of like a primitive version of Vocal 
Encoder.
You can achieve this instrument with an electrolarynx, a device used for 
people who have had total voice removal or who are born without it. You 
can also try talking with your harmonica
