[DECtalk] I need help!

The DECtalk program, speak43, which you should be using, is an editing 
environment in and of itself, with some Notepad-like features. You can use 
any text editor you want to create your files, but the Speak application can 
only handle about 64K or so, so you can't create anything bigger than that. 
Also, the files must be text files, not Word or Word Perfect or RTF or HTML 
or...
     The Speak application will only open and use a file called demo.txt in 
its own directory. This is a hardcoded filename and cannot be changed. A few 
years ago I wrote a program called Playdec which should be at the archive, 
which will let you play any DECtalk file. It includes documentation and 
source code. Recently a few people have said it didn't work for them. YMMV.
