We're finishing the software this week. My favorette part of the software
is, we have bios of the original Dectalk team. It will really be nice!
I wanted to scream last night. _www.dogpile.com_ (http://www.dogpile.com)
brought of sound files of Dennis's original work. I wish we had time to add
them to the CD in Dennis's small write up, but we can't. We need this done in
time for C-sun.
SNOOPI

hi everyone -
i just wanted to add a small note to snoopi's message about being sort of
adopted by dectalk. i'm someone who was lucky enough to be able to be a student
of Dennis Klatt. i arrived at MIT in 1979, and right away took Dennis'
Speech Lab class and started working on speech synthesis. one of the stories
Dennis used to tell us frequently was why he made DECtalk sing, which was to give
a musical voice to persons like Snoopi, and that the first song that Dennis
programmed was Happy Birthday to his daughter Laura. So, I feel that Snoopi is
carrying on the musical tradition that was one of Dennis' motivations for
working on speech synthesis in the first place. Snoopi is not "adopted" - he's
the next generation of the DECtalk family that Dennis fathered.
