[DECtalk] your site, was: Re: Copyright violation

In theory at least, somebody should be able to write a program to convert
MIDI data into DECtalk notes. Of course unless there are lyrics in the MIDI
files, there would be no phonemes, so something standard would have to be
put in place, then the actual phonemes put in later. I knew of one such
program that had been written, but aparently it was a private use deal and
wasn't available to outsiders.
Jayson.

Can midi actually do it? It doesn't seem possible.

Uh, sir, you really need educated, BADLY! People who can't talk use a
communication device which they have with them at all times. These devices
have Dectalk in them and are considered to be people's voices. So yes, they
do have Dectalk with them at all times.

And about midi files. I wish I knew how. It often takes me 14 hours per
song. If someone wants to show me how to use midi to program Dectalk it
would sure help me out. But I program this stuff all by hand.

If you think I'm lying, come watch.

    hi,
    well glad to be back.

I just have one question. The information you said in your previous
message is quite interesting...

But I look at it this way. Dectalk cannot, and never will help people
sing. In order to use Dectalk, you would need to carry a computer around all
the time. And that can be a paine to people at times. Also, its not you who
has created the songs, but a person (in this case, a nice guy named Snoopy
Botten). By the time you actually create a song yourself, the service or
song will be over.
I'm not trying to insult you and your work ; on the side, I respect all
you have done with dectalk. Hours of programming and midi file searching;
hours of software creation lies in the snoopie botten folder.

I wrote that wrong. I was talking about my stuff in the archives.

Please forget I said anything at all. No one really got my point and
now I regret saying anything at all.

I just get angry because of singing with Dectalk ever becomes a
violation, it will end the only form of singing that many disabled people
have.

I just gotta remind myself that I'm on a listserv where people make
Dectalk to sing out of a joke rather than actually helping people.

Through my work; people sing at funerals, sing the Anthem, take part
in Christmas caroling, sing happy birthday to friends, take part in karaoke,
and so on. To those who use Dectalk to speak, this is no joke.

But you guys screw around, have your fun and don't realize that
blindingly thinking Dectalk violates copy right will make things harder if
people like me ever have to go to court.

Dectalk files are text that can be changed. As long as a file can be
edited, how the heck can it be copy written? Plus, nothing on Jayson's site
is being sold.

But never mind. If the archives end up being removed, I'll
understand. To most of you, this is a joke, and nothing anyone says will
change your thinking. I feel sorry for you guys.

No it aint! No one is SELLING it. SELLING is the key word.

Gees, go into my archives if you want to scream copy right
violation. However, none of my stuff is for sale. I'm just showing off.

By the way, I did the same song. I do tons of demo stuff. None
of it is for sale.

By the way, the name of it is "Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm". You left off
one set of M's. I'm just giving the song it's proper credit.

            Hello folks.
I've just recently discovered that the Crash Test Dummies file
on the archive is a little-known song called "mmm mmm mmm" by a group known
as the "crash test dummies," a dark and haunting smash hit in1993. It's
pretty much irrelevant today, which is why it was never detected, but it is
a copyright violation.
