Hello,
I have just installed a new FTP server on my machine. This will at long
last allow people to upload new material themselves without having to get an
account and password from me. However, I want someone to test this to make
sure it's working. The issue here is one of my Router not allowing traffic
to get through. If this issue is resolved FTP upload will be available
immediately.
Anybody who wishes, please do the following to test this.
1. Login anonymously to bluegrasspals.com via FTP. If asked for a
username, type "anonymous" without the quotes. No password is needed.
2. Change to the "incoming" directory.
3. Upload any file you want, please don't make it too big. This doesn't
even have to be something for the DECtalk archive, but for security's sake I
wouldn't recommend uploading a file containing passwords, credit card
numbers, banking records and the like. Insure the file was uploaded
correctly.
4. Now to try to break security, just for fun. Download the file. Upload
a file with the same name. Delete the file. You should not be able to do
any of these things.
With this setup, people can list the directory and see what all has been
uploaded, but that's all they can do. Uploaded files can't be downloaded,
deleted or overwritten.
Once this is tested I'll send an official announcement to the list. Thanks
for beta testing this exciting functionality!
Jayson.
